Accor has today (Nov 13) confirmed it will assume management of the Radisson Resort Gold Coast in South East Queensland from December 18, 2012.
Come December, the property will be the 200th hotel in the Australian network for Accor after the company signed a deal with GC Hotel Management to manage what will become the Mercure Gold Coast Resort.
Accor Pacific’s Chief Operating Officer, Simon McGrath, said it was a “fitting hotel to celebrate such a major milestone for the group”.
“For Accor it is a very strategic new addition to the network, both because it represents a significant landmark for Accor’s expansion in Australia, and also because it adds to the group’s portfolio in the Gold Coast,” he said.
“The addition of the Mercure Resort will allow us to cater for growing demand in the mid-market, especially for conferences, events and groups.”
Speaking exclusively to HM recently, Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group’s President for Asia-Pacific, Simon Barlow, said the company “had a good run there and we are leaving on good terms”.
Barlow said while Carlson was losing the Gold Coast property, the company was seeing sustained growth right across the Asia-Pacific region.
“We signed 21 hotels last year and 16 hotels this year and have 80 properties in our Asia-Pacific pipeline,” he said.
HM understands Carlson is currently looking at a number of new opportunities across Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.
