Guests at Ayers Rock Resort can now gain an even greater enjoyment from the spectacular desert sky with the launch of two Outback Sky Journey tours in August.
The two interactive tours, one tailored especially for families, are available nightly to guests at every property at the resort.
“Guests at the resort are frequently fascinated with the clarity and brilliance of the night sky at the Resort,” said Voyages Indigenous Tourism Managing Director Koos Klein.
“These interactive tours will allow adults and children alike to gain a greater enjoyment of the beauty of the desert at night,” he said.
Both tours are just over an hour in length and feature the use of technology with telescopes, binoculars and iPads so that guests can get an up close and personal appreciation of the wonders around them. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate is served and to ensure an intimate experience numbers are limited to 25 per tour. Both tours cost AUD$38 per adult with children under 15 free when accompanied by a paying adult.
The Family Astro Tour departs 30 minutes after sunset and is designed for people of all ages with limited knowledge of the night sky and is broken into three segments – the past, present and future. Guests learn how ancient cultures used the night sky, are shown the constellations, stars and planets.
The Astro Tour leaves two hours after sunset and is designed to enhance guest’s knowledge of astronomy and its beginnings. Guests learn how stars are formed, why they produce light, the lifecycle of a star and much more while being enthralled by the beauty of the Outback Sky.
“We are committed to continually improving facilities at Ayers Rock Resort and these tours join our other guest experience initiatives launched this year including Tali Wiru, the new premium under the stars dining experience, and the suite of daily free Indigenous experiences launched in June,” Klein said.
