The Star Sydney CEO and Group Head of Transformation, Scott Wharton, is stepping down later this month to accept a role outside of the business, prompting a leadership restructure at The Star Entertainment Group.
Wharton, a former Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) executive, announced his resignation, eight months after being appointed.
He will vacate the position on April 28, 2023.
The Star Entertainment Group CEO and Managing Director, Robbie Cooke, said there will a restructure following Wharton’s departure with two new appointments to be made.
“We are well positioned to announce shortly Scott’s successor as CEO for The Star Sydney,” Cooke said in a statement to the ASX.
Separately, The Star’s current General Manager Transformation Office, Nicola Burke, has accepted the position of Chief Transformation Officer, subject to regulatory approval.
Cooke thanked Wharton for his contribution, particularly in respect of the company’s remediation actions including The Star’s Renewal Program which centres around governance and culture.
“We are committed to winning back trust and confidence from the community and the work Scott has led since his appointment last July has laid incredibly important foundations,” Cooke said.
“We still have a lot of work ahead, but the Board and the management team have an unwavering focus on proving our suitability to hold casino licenses in NSW and Queensland.”
Wharton thanked Cooke, the Board, and his teams for their support and assistance since joining the business.
“It has been a hugely rewarding to contribute alongside so many committed, hard-working leaders and team members,” he said.
