The forthcoming debut of the Kimpton brand in Sydney will see the hotel adopt ‘Margot’ as its local operating name in line with its brand standards which sees each hotel take on a unique identity and visual representation.
Situated in the former Sydney Water Board building on Pitt Street in the Sydney CBD, Kimpton Margot Sydney will be committed to fostering “genuine human connections through encouraging authenticity” and heartfelt service. The hotel is owned by Pro-invest Group, which acquired the property earlier this year from Greenland Australia.
The 1930s Art Deco hotel will open to guests in January 2022, with guests welcomed across 172 rooms and suites littered with classic and curious decorations and artworks from both local and international names reflecting an inter-war period of cultural evolution. Guest facilities will include a rooftop swimming pool, naturally lit conference and event spaces and the ground-floor ‘Luke’s Kitchen’ restaurant helmed by Aussie chef, Luke Mangan.
True to Kimpton brand hallmarks, the hotel will be friendly to both humans and pets. The nightly Social Hour will also invite guests to come together to mingle and socialise in an elegant setting with canapes and refreshments.
A number of executive appointments including a General Manager are yet to come, however the hotel has revealed Adam Leonard will take on the role of Sales and Marketing Director. The highly experienced Leonard has spent the past three years in a similar role at InterContinental Hayman Island Resort.
Further appointments will see Kenza Sebti named Director of Rooms and Tammy McGregor as Restaurant and Bars Manager. Sebti returns to the Kimpton brand to add to five years enjoyed as a team member earlier in her career, while McGregor moves to Sydney after spending five years at Kimpton Seafire Resort and Spa in the Cayman Islands.
The hotel has also hired Jane Thai as Director of People and Culture; Jorge Tayag as Director of Engineering; Simon McAllister as Senior Sous Chef and Christopher Shannon as Director of Restaurants and Bars.
Pro-invest Group Head of Operations, Shantha de Silva, said the appointment of Adam Leonard was a significant move as the hotel prepares for its January opening.
“Adam’s experience in luxury hotels and resorts will be of great value to Kimpton, as personalised service combined with highly curated guest experiences is paramount to delivering on the Kimpton brand promise,” De Silva said.
“We know Adam is going to be a key driver of Kimpton’s lifestyle programming, which includes experiences such as yoga lessons, art and wine appreciation events and of course Kimpton’s iconic Social Hour, and we are excited to see the programs come to life.
“In addition to Adam’s appointment, we are also excited to have a leading line-up of Kimpton colleagues from around the world join Kimpton Margot Sydney. Their enthusiasm to launch this landmark hotel is a testament to the brand and the excitement that is building around the property, and we can’t wait to see them put their stamp on Kimpton Margot Sydney.”
