Shovels are now in the ground at Hotel Indigo Auckland, with a groundbreaking ceremony taking place at the site late last week.
First announced in 2018, the 41-storey tower will mark the debut of IHG Hotels and Resorts’ Hotel Indigo brand in New Zealand, building on further announcements for Hotel Indigo properties to come in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. The brand made its Australian debut earlier this year with the opening of Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets in South Australia.
Hotel Indigo Auckland will comprise 225 rooms and will form part of a mixed-use development alongside a residential component and multiple food and beverage outlets. Within the hotel itself will be an all-day restaurant and bar, fitness centre and a number of flexible meeting and conference spaces.
The building will also retain an external façade dating back to 1912 to highlight the heritage of the Auckland Central area.
IHG Hotels and Resorts Vice President, Development – Australasia, Japan and Pacific, Abhijay Sandilya, said Hotel Indigo Auckland was the fifth signing for the brand in Australasia.
Hotel Indigo Auckland is a project of Melbourne construction firm Icon and 94 Feet Pty Ltd, with Neoscape Pty Ltd involved to oversee the development. Scott Carver has been engaged for interior design.
“We’re so excited to open one of the first globally-branded boutique hotels in Auckland, creating a destination for travellers who are looking for a local experience, with the security and amenity of a global brand,” he said.
“This development is destined to become an iconic landmark on the Auckland landscape, and with robust tourism arrivals and unprecedented demand, we are confident that Hotel Indigo Auckland will be a story of success,” said Ninety Four Feet Managing Director, Dean Rzechta.
