Two new hotel developments in the outer eastern and western suburbs of Melbourne will carry Courtyard by Marriott branding, following the signing of a new management agreement with the Suleman Group.
Both located around 25kms from the CBD, the new Courtyard by Marriott locations will be constructed in Mulgrave to the east and Truganina to the west, catering to rapidly growing business and commercial travel demands outside of the city centre. The two new hotels have set opening dates of December 2023 (Truganina) and 2024 (Mulgrave) at this stage.
Courtyard by Marriott Mulgrave will be located close to Monash University and will feature 212 guest rooms across a range of studio and multi-bedroom configurations. Facilities will include a lobby lounge and fitness centre complete with sauna and steam rooms. The hotel’s dining offering will consist of an all-day restaurant along with a ‘Grab and Go’ style café.
Over the other side of town, Courtyard by Marriott Truganina will consist of 141 rooms with a similar line-up of guest facilities, with the addition of a rooftop bar. Both hotels will also feature plentiful space for meetings and events.
Marriott International Area Vice-President, Sean Hunt, said the company was proud to play a role in the expansion of Suleman Group’s property portfolio.
“The signing of Courtyard by Marriott hotels in Mulgrave and Truganina reflects Marriott International’s commitment to expand our footprint into growth corridors outside of Australian capital cities,” Hunt said.
Senior Director of Hotel Development, Richard Crawford, added that despite the industry’s overall hardships, 2020 has held strong as a record year of signings for the company in the Australia and Pacific region.
“We know that our guest profile will change, and we are already seeing the rewards of pivoting our focus to local markets,” he said.
“Our new Mulgrave and Truganina hotels will benefit from these efforts as they both exist within localised commercial ecosystems and will have a reliance on intrastate and interstate guests.”
The new signings build on the fairly recent addition of the Courtyard by Marriott brand in the Victorian capital, with the label’s first due to open in West Melbourne next year. The brand earlier this year signed a new development and management deal for Sydney’s outer suburbs, with Courtyard by Marriott Sydney, Auburn on track to open in the coming years.
