Luxury Brisbane property, Emporium Hotel South Bank, has tapped long-serving hospitality industry veteran John McIlwain to take control of the property as General Manager, HM can reveal.
Making the move back to his Queensland homeland after more than 20 years in hospitality roles around the world, McIlwain brings more than 20 years in hotel leadership positions and 30 years overall in the industry to his new title. Most recently, McIlwain served as General Manager of Operations at Event Hospitality, looking after the Rydges, QT and Atura brands in Queensland, New South Wales and the Northern Territory.
Commenting on his new appointment, McIlwain said he was thrilled to have the opportunity to lead the luxury boutique property.
“With its premium location along the Brisbane River and surrounded by arts, culture, food and entertainment, Emporium Hotel is leading the charge in bringing luxury stays and exceptional dining experiences to the people.
“The best is yet to come for this budding metropolis, and I am certain Emporium Hotel will be leading the pack in cementing Brisbane on the map as an exciting destination.”
Emporium owners, the Anthony John Group, said the company was delighted to welcome John to the hotel family.
“With his extensive experience across Australia and New Zealand with a focus on supporting and leading teams, he is the right person to steer this hotel into the next phase of its development as one of Queensland’s premier privately owned boutique hotels,” said CEO Daniel John.
