Refurbishment works have concluded at the former Novotel Twin Waters Resort, north of Brisbane, with the property taking on the new name of Novotel Sunshine Coast Resort.
Following the ownership transfer of the resort last year to Shakespeare Property Group for around $100 million, the property has unveiled a new-look lobby and bar area alongside its new trading name. The completion of the works follows the opening of the new purpose-built Sunshine Coast Convention Centre earlier this year.
The $2 million investment has sought to transform the lobby area, inspired by the resort’s surrounding region and has been designed to flow to the main outdoor swimming pool and private lagoon. Resort owners say the new SOLA Bar has been well received during its soft launch phase by guests and locals alike, with the company expecting it to become a popular regular destination for locals to socialise with friends and family.
“The new SOLA bar and alfresco deck has created relaxed coastal dining facilities for guests with incredible views over the lagoon, it has increased our capacity for group dining and provided an on trend option for locals to visit,” said Shakespeare Property Group Managing Director, Yak Yong Quek.
The famous grand entrance has been retained but restyled with homage paid to this piece of architecture and its history dating back to the resort’s opening in 1990. Local indigenous artworks have been installed in the lobby to showcase the strength of artistic talent in the region.
Accor’s Vice President Operations QLD/NT, Matt Young, said the resort’s new name better reflected the property’s evolution.
“We believe that it’s a more progressive and appropriate name given that we are located in a destination being profiled on the international stage now more than ever before.”
