Virgin Australia Group’s recently-appointed CEO, Paul Scurrah, says he’s excited about what the future holds for the company, despite the carrier facing significant “headwinds” over the past 12 months.
Speaking exclusively to HM Editor-In-Chief, James Wilkinson at the launch of Virgin’s partnership with Australian suicide prevention charity ‘R U OK?’, Scurrah said the airline had a bright future despite foreign exchange rates and fuel costs “going in the wrong direction” which led to a loss over the 2018-19 financial year.
Scurrah, who was appointed CEO in March 2019, told HM several keys to success for Virgin Australia were the growth of travel in the Asia-Pacific region, outbound and inbound business to the United States, and offering key points of difference from other carriers.
On the partnership with ‘R U OK?’, Scurrah said it was important because of “Virgin’s powerful voice in the community” and “mental health was a topic and issue that touched every Australian”.
