West Melbourne will become the home of the Victoria capital’s first Courtyard by Marriott-branded hotel, Marriott International confirmed today.
Signing a management agreement with Ousia Investments, the forthcoming hotel will be a standalone 150-room project, bucking the recent trend which has seen brands occupying part of a mixed-use development.
“Demand is on the rise for modern yet affordable accommodations that appeal to ambitious and enterprising guests, so we’re delighted we’ve found the right site to debut the Courtyard by Marriott brand in the Melbourne market,” commented Marriott International Area Vice President, Australia, New Zealand and Pacific, Sean Hunt.
Courtyard by Marriott West Melbourne will be located at 50 Batman Street – around a 20-minute drive from the city’s main airport at Tullamarine. Nearby attractions will include Federation Square, Marvel Stadium, the Queen Victoria Market and the Melbourne Convention Centre. The hotel is due to open in 2021 and will offer additional guest and public facilities including an outdoor swimming pool, heated in winter, 24-hour fitness centre complete with sauna. Also on site will be a restaurant with outdoor and communal seating and a ‘grab-and-go’ style snack bar with items on sale.
The wider Marriott International group is continuing to grow quickly in Australia, with 19 hotels already open and a further 19 in the current pipeline.
“Courtyard by Marriott is our largest brand by distribution with more than 1,100 properties globally, and it has been delivering outstanding results for the select service tier,” Senior Director of Hotel Development, Australia, New Zealand and Pacific, Richard Crawford said.
