New Zealand will welcome its second flagship InterContinental-branded hotel in 2022 after IHG announced an agreement had been reached to enter Auckland as part of a newbuild mixed-use development.
Headlining the $1 billion dollar Commercial Bay retail and lifestyle mixed-use precinct, the 244-room InterContinental Auckland at 1 Queen Street will complement a plethora of high-end retail and dining offerings in the burgeoning development, which will also feature a 39-storey office tower. It will be the IHG group’s eighth property across New Zealand.
Situated near the Auckland waterfront, the property will offer guests a number of all-day restaurants and bars, the signature Club InterContinental, fitness centre and meeting facilities. Around 9 in every ten rooms will offer harbour or water views. The new hotel is being built in partnership with Precinct Properties, New Zealand’s largest city centre real estate owner.
“It’s high time Auckland got a taste of the InterContinental Life, so we are very excited about this announcement,” said IHG’s Senior Director of Development Australasia Abhijay Sandilya.
“Being part of such an iconic mixed-use development ensures the hotel, dining, retail and commercial components form a symbiotic relationship. Together with Precinct Properties, we will deliver a distinctive product that inspires those travellers who are looking for the InterContinental understated luxury, both in the leisure and corporate space.”
The new InterContinental Auckland will be the second flagship IHG brand in New Zealand after InterContinental Wellington.
