The leading Hoteliers in Asia-Pacific were recognised for their hard work and dedication to their profession at the 2011 HM Awards for Hotel and Accommodation Excellence presented by Sealy, in Sydney last Friday night (Sep 2).
Pan Pacific Hotels Group’s CEO and President, A. Patrick Imbardelli, led the way, being named the HM magazine Asia-Pacific Hotelier of the Year in front of a record crowd of 600 hoteliers, industry leaders and major suppliers at the prestigious Sydney Town Hall.
The HM magazine Asia-Pacific Hotelier of the Year was one of the three major Hotelier Awards handed out on the night, alongside gongs for leaders in Australia and New Zealand.
InterContinental Hotels Group’s Chief Operating Officer for Australasia, Bruce McKenzie, was named HM magazine Australian Hotelier of the Year while Accor Hotels’ Vice President for New Zealand, Paul Richardson, was named New Zealand Hotelier of the Year.
“The three biggest gongs at the HM Awards are for the region’s leading Hoteliers and we are proud to recognise the hard work of three brilliant leaders in the Asia-Pacific region,” said HM (Hotel Management) magazine’s Managing Editor, James Wilkinson.
“The HM magazine Australian Hotelier of the Year was awarded for the fifth time in 2011, but the first for the Asia-Pacific and New Zealand trophies.
“Both Patrick Imbardelli (Asia-Pacific Hotelier of the Year) and Paul Richardson (New Zealand Hotelier of the Year) are two of the industry’s finest staff and it was a great honour for them to win these two trophies in their first year of being awarded.
“All three Hotelier of the Year awards are peer voted, meaning only a selected group of Hoteliers can vote for who they believe are the best leaders in Asia-Pacific, Australia and New Zealand. HM magazine is effectively just the facilitator of these three awards that are voted by the industry for the industry,” he said.

The 2011 HM Awards were hosted by HM magazine, presented by Sealy, and co-hosted by AHS Hospitality, Intrust Super, ISIS and Philips.
