InterContinental Wellington has opened a new restaurant that pays tribute to the General Post Office that once stood at the same site.
The GPO restaurant, which opened on April 21, is led by acclaimed Executive Chef Carl Maunder who brings a contemporary spin on classic cooking techniques.
Using seasonal produce from New Zealand, and influenced by the rich cultures of Southern Europe, Levant and Mediterranean, the menu tells “a culinary story of travel, discovery, and culture”.
InterContinental Wellington’s General Manager, Scott Hamilton, said the addition of this restaurant builds on the hotel’s reputation as one of Wellington’s top destinations for business and leisure.
“It is exciting to unveil GPO as a strong culinary concept that will appeal to both locals and visitors, giving guests even more reason to stay with us,” he said.
“It feels good to welcome this exciting new dining experience to enhance our luxury line-up.”
The GPO offers a relaxed yet refined dining environment with thoughtful local touches including bespoke crockery crafted by renowned New Zealand brand, Temuka Pottery.
Maunder’s strong relationships with local suppliers sees restaurant goers enjoy fresh bread daily from Shelly Bay Baker, local olive oil from Olea Estate, sustainable Haku kingfish from Ruakaka, and clams from Cloudy Bay.
In-house sommeliers have handpicked the restaurant’s wine selection featuring wines from the Aegean through to the Riviera, Andalusia and Australasia.
