The Accommodation Association of Australia’s (AAoA) Interim CEO Richard Munro will depart the association at the end of the month.
Munro’s contact comes to an end on September 30, a year after stepping into the role which he had previously held from mid-2011 to mid-2019.
“As I said when I returned to the role a year ago, this is a sector I love and believe in,” Munro said in a statement.
“Accepting the role of Interim CEO as we embarked on the historic amalgamation proposal with Australian Hotels Association and Tourism Accommodation Australia was the perfect opportunity to get the job done for our members and industry.
“The Accommodation sector has certainly had its share of challenges in recent times, and I am proud of my part in helping the Accommodation Association and our members meet those challenges and set the frame for an even brighter future.”
Over the past year, Munro has advocated for the industry on important issues and prepared the association for the upcoming proposed merger with Tourism Accommodation Australia (TAA) to form peak industry body, Accommodation Australia.
Accommodation Association President, Leanne Harwood, thanked Munro for his contribution and for advocating for the organisation, members and sector.
“Richard has played a key role in leading the amalgamation discussions across TAA and the AAoA including prior to accepting the Interim CEO role and, now that the project is moving closer to completion, and with both associations working so closely together, we thank Richard for his extensive contribution and leadership,” she said.
The proposed amalgamation is expected to be complete by mid-2023, subject to a member vote.
