IHG expects to donate 100,000 meals to those in need during the month of September through its Stay for Good initiative, in partnership with OzHarvest.
Hotels across the country, including the recently opened InterContinental Sorrento Mornington Peninsula, Hotel Indigo Brisbane City Centre, InterContinental Sydney, voco Kirkton Park, Crowne Plaza Adelaide, and more will donate $1 – which equates to two meals – from every stay, restaurant, and bar bill.
Guests will also be invited to support the initiative via IHG’s Dollar Diners promotion, through which an extra dollar can be added to the bill to support the cause, at select hotels.
The initiative also sees the launch of a new menu item, the plant-based OzHarvest burger, which has been curated by InterContinental Sydney Double Bay Executive Chef, Denny Lohanda. Available during the month of September, each order will see a further $1 donated.
IHG has been an OzHarvest partner since 2019, but with the skyrocketing cost of living putting many Australians under financial strain, the company has stressed the importance of giving back at this time.
“We know travellers are increasingly seeking opportunities to give back to the communities in which they visit – as well as expecting sustainably-minded initiatives from the businesses they support,” said IHG Hotels and Resorts, Managing Director, Australasia and Pacific, Matthew Tripolone.
“We are incredibly proud to continue our work with OzHarvest and believe that IHG has an important role to play in supporting Australians doing it tough amidst the steep rise in cost of living.”
The impacts of the pandemic, floods, and the war in Ukraine have resulted in significant price increases across basic items such as fuel and food, pushing many Australians to their limits and putting them at higher risk of food insecurity.
“There are so many new people needing our help right now,” said OzHarvest CEO and Founder, Ronni Kahn AO.
“In the last few months, we’ve gone from serving 1,400 to 1,700 people a week at our OzHarvest Market in Waterloo and the charities we support say they need more food to meet demand. Campaigns like Stay for Good play a crucial role in raising much-needed funds, with every $1 donated allowing us to deliver two meals to those in need.”
