Wyndham Hotels and Resorts opened New Zealand’s first Microtel by Wyndham on Monday, in the nation’s capital city of Wellington.
Located on Vivian Street, Microtel by Wyndham Wellington Central will target business and leisure travellers who value the convenience of the CBD location.
The property features 81 guestrooms, designed with dark and neutral tones and a splash of street art with unique statement pieces such as Banksy art prints. The hotel will also incorporate sustainability initiatives such as a recycling program for in-room amenities.
“As borders gradually open up, we are pleased to be introducing our Microtel by Wyndham brand into the Australasian market to tap into the pent-up travel demand and cater to corporate and leisure travellers looking for a simple and seamless travel experience, without sacrificing important creature comforts and exceptional customer service,” said Wyndham Hotels and Resorts President, Asia Pacific, Joon Aun Ooi.
Microtel by Wyndham Wellington Central joins Wyndham’s growing portfolio of 16 hotels in New Zealand, and Ooi says there are many more in the pipeline over the coming years.
“Looking ahead, we will have three unique brands located in the city of Wellington to cater to all types of travellers looking for an economy, midscale, or lifestyle accommodation options while taking advantage of the city’s major corporate and leisure hubs,” he said.
Through Wyndham’s global partnership with Oracle Hospitality, the hotel will operate an interactive lobby with the ability to offer contactless arrival experiences through mobile check-in and keyless entry.
Wyndham has partnered with New Zealand-based developer Stonewood Group to develop the hotel, which will be operated by long-term partner Marsden Group – which currently operates eight Wyndham properties in New Zealand.
“We have partnered with Wyndham Hotels and Resorts to create stylish and affordable accommodation in New Zealand’s key travel destinations for many years and look forward to providing even more options for all types of travellers,” said Marsden Group Director, Michael Osborne.
“Our ongoing partnership with Wyndham remains strong and we hope to roll out the Microtel by Wyndham brand in other regions of New Zealand in the coming years.”
The award-winning midscale brand has more than 340 hotels located across the USA, Canada, Mexico, China, and the Philippines, and recently announced its rapid expansion in China, with 20 new hotels expected to open by the end of 2022.
Microtel by Wyndham Wellington Central is Wyndham’s second Wellington hotel, following the opening of Ramada Suites by Wyndham Taranaki Street Wellington in June 2021, and will be closely followed by the launch of TRYP by Wyndham Tory Street Wellington which is set to open in the next 12 months.
The company’s Australasia expansion supports the company’s mission to reach “2000 hotels by 2025”.
