Sydney’s unique and contemporary Q Station hotel and attraction has been sold, with the operating leasehold picked up by local businessman Glenn Piper – owner of the nearby Harbord Hotel at Freshwater Beach.
Piper will take over the operating lease of the site from current owners Mawland, subject to the approval of the National Parks and Wildlife Service. The successful bid was one of 13 received along with more than 250 genuine enquiries.
Q Station is located at Manly’s North Head and features a 105-room hotel and private beach fronting Sydney Harbour as one of many expansive event venues and dining outlets. The leasehold sale was negotiated by Tom Gibson and Vasso Zographou of CBRE Hotels along with Andrew Jackson and Nic Simarro of HTL Property.
“This is an incredibly special asset and I am absolutely thrilled to be given the opportunity to operate Q Station and enhance its offering,” Piper said of his acquisition.
“The sale of Q Station is a great example of the resilience of Sydney’s hotel investment market and the continued interest in institutional grade tourism assets,” said CBRE Hotels’ Tom Gibson.
“There’s no doubt the nature of the offering with a hospitality and tourism focus appealed to all investor types,” HTL’s Andrew Jackson added.
“Given the timing of the offering through NSW’s harshest lockdowns, it was incredible to see the level of confidence from the market.”
