Guests have spent their first night at Sofitel Adelaide after the hotel celebrated its grand opening as the first newly built five-star hotel to open in the South Australian capital in three decades.
Joined by Daniel Palumbo from Palumbo Group, owner and developer of the AUD$150 million property, a grand opening event was held on-site, with South Australian Premier, Steven Marshall, cutting the ceremonial ribbon. Dignitaries in attendance included South Australian Tourism Commission CEO, Rodney Harrex, Accor’s state VP of Operations, Adrian Williams and Sofitel Adelaide General Manager, Rachael Harman.
Sofitel Adelaide occupies the lower 24 storeys of Palumbo Group’s new 32-storey mixed-use tower in central Adelaide and features a striking glass exterior sure to make the building one of the most recognisable in the city. The hotel has 251 guest rooms and suites across six categories, helmed by the palatial Presidential Suite, which features an open living room, separate dining room, walk-in closet, private study and a spacious master bedroom with separate ensuite.
Guests staying in Luxury Club rooms will have access to the Club Millésime private lounge, located on Level 10 and serving a la carte breakfast, afternoon tea, evening canapes and personalised check-in and out.
In line with the brand’s French heritage and cultural links, Sofitel Adelaide aligns its philosophy with the wine region of Bordeaux, reflected in the hotel’s French restaurant Garçon Bleu. Located on Level 9, diners in the 90-seat dining room will enjoy an open kitchen concept, an extensive wine selection and an oyster and raw seafood bar.
At street level, the hotel’s Déjà Vu champagne bar takes its inspiration from idyllic Parisian street cafes, serving high-end beverages and light meals.
Accor Pacific CEO, Simon McGrath, congratulated Palumbo Group on the creation of a world-class hotel in South Australia’s capital.
“The hotel and restaurant are a true reflection of all that is great in South Australia and promises to deliver an exceptional experience for guests,” McGrath said.
“With Palumbo we have worked with an incredible partner at our side, who have brought great skill, knowledge and detail to this landmark project.”
South Australia Premier, Steven Marshall, said Sofitel Adelaide would be a key asset to the state.
“I congratulate the Palumbo and Accor Pacific teams on this huge achievement – a hotel development of this calibre will play a critical role in the post-COVID recovery of our tourism sector as we reopen South Australia’s borders from November 23.
“This investment by the South Australian family-owned Palumbo group and international hotel brand Sofitel is a massive show of support for South Australia’s future and the potential in our tourism sector and mean more jobs for South Australians.“
