Modern and contemporary artwork coupled with classic style and sophisticated hospitality will be key featured hallmarks of the new Sofitel Adelaide upon its opening in September, Accor has confirmed, as new renderings inside the hotel have been revealed.
The AUD$150 million newbuild will feature 251 rooms and suites with residential style interiors inspired by adapted French colonial décor with modern aesthetics reflecting the history and character of Adelaide. Rooms will offer open-style bathrooms with free standing bathtubs, with showers featuring mosaics reflecting the stain glass windows of the city’s famous cathedrals.
Sofitel Adelaide will be led by Adelaide native, Rachel Harman, and will be the seventh of the brand’s hotels in Australia, located on Currie Street in the city centre. The hotel will occupy the lower 24 levels in a 32-storey mixed-use development from Palumbo Group, which will be one of the tallest residential developments in South Australia.
Guests will be able to utilise a French-inspired restaurant with private dining room, two bars, a swimming pool, health and fitness centre and a Sofitel Club lounge, with flexible meeting and conference facilities also available.
Accor Pacific CEO, Simon McGrath, said the hotel’s design reflects the distinct sense of style and sophistication of Sofitel.
“Distinguished by its bursting calendar of cultural events and flourishing passions for gastronomy, fine wine, music, fashion and design, Adelaide is an ideal destination for our Sofitel brand,” he said.
“Sofitel Adelaide is one of our biggest hotel openings of 2021 and its level of luxury and onsite amenities will ensure it’s one of Adelaide’s most illustrious new destinations.”
Central to the hotel’s design was Adelaide local Carl Almeida from P49 Deesign, who said guests will be enveloped on arrival by a variety of thematic narratives in the form of Adelaide’s churches, arts and culture, all of which have been incorporated into the hotel’s decoration.
Artwork around the hotel includes ‘Field of Dreams’, an original piece by Australian fine art photographer, Alexia Sinclair, which forms a centrepiece of the Sofitel Adelaide lobby. Various artworks inspired by Sofitel’s French heritage and Adelaide’s cathedrals have been distributed around the hotel, highlighted by lightboxes designed to illuminate the porte cochere ceiling and a flowing chandelier which leads guests to a lounge bar.
