A ground-breaking ceremony has been held to mark the commencement of construction of what will become Ramada by Wyndham Playford in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.
The AUD$70 million development in the city’s north was attended by senior management from Wyndham Hotels and Resorts and Wyndham Destinations, including Head of Development, Matt Holmes, President and Managing Director International Operations, Barry Robinson, along with Senior Director of Operations, Duncan Mars. Dignitaries including City of Playford Mayor, Glenn Docherty, were also in attendance.
Once complete, the 205-room hotel will be the first Ramada by Wyndham in South Australia and signifies the ongoing expansion of the Wyndham portfolio across Asia-Pacific. It will be operated under a franchise agreement between Wyndham Hotels and Resorts and Wyndham Destinations, managed by the companies’ Resorts Management by Wyndham division.
Guest facilities at the new hotel will include a restaurant and sports bar, swimming pool, fitness centre and numerous meeting and function spaces.
Wyndham Hotels and Resorts Head of Development, South East Asia and Pacific Rim, Matt Holmes, said the Playford property was an important addition to the company’s portfolio across Asia-Pacific.
The hotel’s launch will coincide with a significant expansion of Playford’s infrastructure including the AUD$885 million Northern Connector Expressway and Ramada Playford will play a significant role in Playford’s emergence as a gateway city to the northern regional areas of South Australia,” he said.
Wyndham Destinations President and Managing Director, International Operations, Barry Robinson, said the new hotel was a long-awaited project that will bring an elevated level of accommodation and a globally recognised hospitality brand to the city.
“It is an expression of confidence in the future of the city and the resilience of the state’s hotel sector, which overcame the disruptions of COVID-19 to recently record festive figures on par with those from 2019,” he added.
The hotel has been designed by Carlo Penning from MPH Architects, with local SA firm Mossop Builders in charge of the construction. Asset management and consulting services are being provided by Hotelliere.
Ramada by Wyndham Playford is on track for completion late next year and is expected to be open by Christmas 2022.
