Melbourne will become the next city to get a taste of the Mövenpick hotel brand with Accor this week confirming it will open a new location for the decadent brand in the Victorian capital in May 2021.
Mövenpick Hotel Melbourne on Spencer will be housed in a six-level podium as the hotel component within the 78-storey ‘Premier Tower’ mixed-use residential development at the corner of Spencer and Bourke Streets in the Melbourne CBD. The tower, designed by Elenberg Fraser, is situated near major transport links including Southern Cross Station and near the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
First announced in 2016, the new hotel is being developed in conjunction with Multiplex and long-term Accor partner, Singapore’s Fragrance Group Limited, with which Accor has opened several Australian hotels including Ibis Styles in Hobart, Novotel Perth Murray Street and Mövenpick Hotel Hobart, which opened in January.
Accor Pacific CEO, Simon McGrath, said he was delighted to be bringing the Mövenpick brand to Melbourne.
“This investment will benefit the local community by providing a choice of even greater accommodation options for visitors to the city and for Accor loyalty guests,” he said.
“The city of Melbourne is the perfect location for a Mövenpick hotel, enriching Melbourne’s incredible culinary scene with an outstanding restaurant and bar, and masterfully blending the brand’s Swiss heritage with a top quality hospitality experience.”
The 172-room hotel will feature all of the Mövenpick hallmarks, including the brand’s signature ice-cream and chocolate, which will be available at a dedicated ground-floor café. Guests will also be able to enjoy the ‘Miss Mi’ Southeast Asian restaurant and bar, a 25-metre swimming pool, sauna, fitness centre and meeting rooms.
Guests will also have access to the popular daily ‘Chocolate Hour’ where they can take advantage of samples of Mövenpick brand chocolate-based drinks and treats. At the other end of the health spectrum, the hotel will offer healthy energy shots blended with juice and yoghurt along with fresh fruit and vegetables to help guests start their day.
Breakfast will be available either as a sit-down service or as a ‘Grab and Go’ pack. The hotel will also offer web check-in and free WiFi to all guests.
“We can’t wait to unveil this exquisite hotel and showcase its showstopper Miss Mi venue to Melburnians and those visiting the culture capital of Australia,” said Fragrance Group CEO, James Koh.
