Hilton Sydney has named 30-year hospitality industry stalwart, Hayden Hughes, as its new General Manager, with Hughes now set to take charge at one of Australia’s most iconic hotels.
The role sees the Brisbane native return to Sydney for a second stint, having previously served as General Manager at Accor’s Darling Harbour properties (Ibis and Novotel). Prior to taking up the role at Hilton Sydney, Hughes was the General Manager at Sofitel Brisbane Central and has also held roles at hotels on the Gold Coast, Melbourne and Tokyo.
Hughes steps into the shoes of popular and highly respected hotelier, Ronald Van Weezel, who has led the property for the past six years. The Dutch national has opted to make the move back to his homeland and to pursue his next professional opportunity.
Speaking of his new appointment, Hughes said he was grateful for the opportunity to lead Hilton Sydney – an opportunity which was impossible to pass up. Along with 587 guest rooms, the hotel features an indoor swimming pool and chef’s hatted restaurant run by celebrity chef, Luke Mangan.
“The timing could not be more perfect as we gear up for what we hope is a big year for the hotel in 2021,” he said.
