Construction of a new hotel development in the ‘Learning Quarter’ of Central Auckland will be managed by Marriott International under its booming and high-energy brand, Moxy Hotels, the company announced today.
Owned by Tianyou Group (Tumyu Group) and tipped to open in January 2023, the new Moxy Auckland will be located around one-kilometre from the University of Auckland, Art Gallery and Auckland Domain. True to brand hallmarks, the new hotel will feature compact but high-tech rooms loaded with youthful exuberance, inviting communal areas and stylish, sociable bars and entertainment areas.
The hotel will feature 185 flexible rooms which guests can adapt to suit their preferences. Facilities will include a fitness centre, meeting rooms and a communal table in the lobby where guests can plug in their devices, communally work or socialise.
In addition, the Moxy Kitchen and Bar will offer guests an a la carte dining option, with an inner courtyard providing a tranquil escape from the busy surrounding streets.
Moxy Auckland will be its second to join the New Zealand pipeline, with plans announced late last year for the brand to make its Kiwi debut in Queenstown in 2022. It builds further on the growth of the brand in Australia, where two Moxy hotels are due to open in South Yarra, Melbourne, next year and in Perth at year’s end.
Marriott Area Vice President, Sean Hunt, said Auckland was one of Moxy’s highest priority destinations in the Pacific region.
“Moxy Auckland will bring the play on spirit to the city, where we are confident there is strong appetite for new bespoke lifestyle hotels that reflect the diversity and energy of the city,” he said.
The new Moxy Auckland will be Marriott International’s second hotel in New Zealand’s largest city, building on the Four Points by Sheraton, Auckland. Senior Director of Hotel Development, Richard Crawford, added that Moxy was Marriott International’s fastest growing brand in the Australia Pacific region.
