Opera Australia will return to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park in September 2021 for a second series of performances in a renewed partnership with Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia.
Backed by the popular Field of Light installation from Bruce Munro, the weekend of concerts will take place from 19-21 September 2021, with a range of accommodation packages and standalone concert tickets soon to be available.
Concerts will take place at all times of the day, beginning with a Friday night Mozart rendition coupled with an open-air dinner at Sails in the Desert. This will be followed early the next two mornings by special dawn performances for a strictly limited audience of 90 people each. The first show on Saturday morning will feature a string quartet performing Brahms love songs, while Sunday will see soprano Taryn Fiebig enlighten guests with a series of songs on her cello.
Both morning performances will begin in darkness, timed to coincide with the sun rising over Uluru to bathe the area in the early morning light.
The headline event on Saturday evening however is set to be a masterpiece concert, with a Gala event featuring arias from Bizet, Puccini, Rossini, Verdi and more, set by a chamber orchestra led by Tahu Matheson.
Voyages CEO, Matthew Cameron-Smith, said the concert series will give visitors to Uluru and fans of opera with something to look forward to after such a difficult year in 2020.
“These extraordinary performances will be a true feast for the senses, combining one of the most iconic Australian landscapes with Opera Australia’s awe-inspiring music and the magic of Field of Light Uluru,” he said.
“Opera Australia is thrilled to be teaming up with Voyages and returning to Uluṟu in 2021 with an expanded program,” added Opera Australia Artistic Director, Lyndon Terracini AM.
“Our first concert there last year proved such a success [and] we knew we were onto something really special.”
