Travelodge has doubled its presence in New Zealand, today opening its second location in the form of the Travelodge Hotel Auckland Wynyard Quarter at the city’s picturesque waterfront.
The opening comes ahead of a big year for the city in 2021 as preparations continue to host the America’s Cup yacht regatta and the 150th anniversary of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron.
Housed within what it describes as a ‘heavy metal’ cauldron of precast concrete and glass, the 154-room hotel has been bestowed with a rock star theme to give guests a comfortable stay with a mid-level price point.
Travelodge Wynard Quarter General Manager, Nick Mannion, said the rush was now on to secure Marina View corner rooms to maximise viewing of the iconic nautical event.
“Team New Zealand’s base is just up the street – you’re talking maybe 500 metres from the hotel’s door,” he said.
“It will definitely be a big drawcard for hotel guests, placing them at the epicentre of the action.”
Manuel Diaz from the hotel’s architecture firm, Peddlethorp, added: “The corner rooms are designed to draw in as much of those showstopping northern views over the water as possible, although quite a number of the other rooms also have views to the marina. The beauty about this property is that it punches above its weight on so many levels.”
TFE Hotels Executive Development Manager, Michael Herman, said the hotel ticks all the boxes and offers something for all market demographics.
“It’s just a winner of a location – especially for Travelodge Wynyard Quarter guests, who won’t be paying the earth nor wanting or asking for anything when they’re there,” he said.
