HM is welcoming hotel designers to submit their work for consideration in the second annual Paul Davis Hotel Design Award, which will be awarded to a worthy applicant at the 2020 edition of AHICE and Design Inn, taking place on September 8 and 9 at Hyatt Regency Sydney.
For 2020, AHICE and Design Inn have been moved due to the current pandemic and for the first time ever, will be held simultaneously at two venues – Hyatt Regency Sydney and Hilton Auckland – offering the only chance to-date in 2020 for the industry to get together in Australia and New Zealand.
The Paul Davis Hotel Design Award, sponsored by Pro-invest Group, will once again seek to recognise the outstanding efforts of a hotel designer for interior work on an Australian property which either opened for the first time in 2019 or reopened following renovations or refurbishment in the same year.
Hotels in all market sectors, from Economy up to Luxury, will be considered on merits, and both new-build and existing hotels are eligible and entries can incorporate either a whole-hotel design or just a particular room or space such as a lobby or hotel restaurant or bar.
Submissions must address multiple criteria including the design concept, functionality and impact of the space, design disciplines used and sustainability elements. Entries close on Friday August 14.
All images used as supporting material must be owned by the designer or be a formal licensee with full copyright privileges, with evidence of such able to be produced.
In 2019, Terence Yong Architecture was crowned as the maiden winner of the Paul Davis Hotel Design Award, recognised for his work designing Little Albion Guest House for 8Hotels in Sydney, prior to the property being sold to Crystalbrook Collection, which now operates it as the Little Albion.
The design of Little Albion Guest House reflects 1920s interiors and 1970s-inspired décor, with the hotel offering guests access to a rooftop garden and bar with views over the city.
