A second voco hotel will be open in Melbourne by 2023 after InterContinental Hotels Group confirmed the signing this week of a new property to be built at the northern end of St Kilda Road.
Voco South Melbourne will consist of 171 rooms decorated in the brand’s exciting ‘out of the box’ Voco Life mentality. Rooms will feature innovative lighting and user-friendly technology along with premium bedding, overlooking city landmarks including the Shrine of Remembrance and the Royal Botanic Gardens. Public facilities will include a colourful restaurant, fitness centre and four meeting spaces. The newbuild project is being driven by locally-based development firm, BEKL.
The placement of Voco South Melbourne will add a new element to a precinct of Melbourne currently dominated by serviced apartments. It will be the brand’s seventh in Australia and third in Victoria once open, joining stable-mates voco Melbourne Central and voco Yarra Valley. The hotel will be located around 3km from the city centre.
IHG Vice President Development, Australia and Japan, Abhijay Sandilya, said clearly the voco brand was striking the right chord with guests and owners.
“It’s quite astounding to reflect on the fact that IHG launched the voco brand just 24 months ago, and we already have two open hotels and another five in the pipeline, three of them in Victoria.
“The new-build voco South Melbourne will bring unique design and memorable guest experiences to this great location, and will complement our voco Melbourne Central, which is already under construction and scheduled to open later this year.”
