Marriott International has named the General Manager for Marriott Docklands Melbourne, with Girish Talreja coming onboard to lead the property through its pre-opening phases.
The 200-room Marriott Docklands Melbourne, due to open in December, will be the first purpose-built Marriott branded hotel in Australia in over two decades, with guest facilities including the city’s first open-air rooftop swimming pool. The development comes as part of a management deal signed with Melbourne property developer, Capital Alliance.
Moving to Melbourne to lead the property, Talreja’s most recent role was Hotel Manager at Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park, where he played a major role in a $50 million renovation and upgrade of the property. The new Melbourne hotel’s leader brings further experience to his role since beginning in his native India at the JW Marriott Mumbai in 2003 and having previously worked in China, Indonesia and Australia.
“I’m excited to return to Melbourne and I look forward to sharing my expertise and knowledge to provide the best services for our guests,” Talreja said.
Marriott International Area Vice President, Australia, New Zealand and Asia Pacific, Sean Hunt, said the company was pleased to have Girish on board as it strengthens its presence in the Victorian capital.
“Having worked for a range of Marriott International branded hotels, Girish understands the importance of bringing the brand to life for our guests. It is an exciting time for Marriott as we continue our commitment to the travel and tourism industry here in Australia.”
