Hundreds of Marriott International hotels across more than a dozen cities in the Asia-Pacific have collectively arranged their façade lighting in the shape of a smiley face in an effort to promote positivity during the present tough market conditions.
The ‘Light for Hope’ initiative was designed to send a small beacon of light and optimism to travellers, locals and wider communities across the region if for no other reason than to draw a smile to those who saw it.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of hotel associates across the Asia Pacific have donated time, money and resources to local charities and frontline health workers. Efforts have included the contribution of surplus food stock, home-made personal protective gear including face masks and offering shelter to health workers and journalists.
Marriott International Group President, Asia Pacific, Craig Smith, said in this time of uncertainty, the only certainty is that we will emerge stronger from the pandemic.
“We are all awaiting the time when we can travel again, but until then we are following the guidance from local authorities and are dedicated to continuing our support for the communities our hotels are in. Through the various downturns faced over the many years, Marriott International has always stood tall by relying on the humanity of its associates.
“No matter where people may be, the light at Marriott International will always be on.”
