A range of loyalty tier and benefit extensions have been issued by World of Hyatt – the global loyalty arm of Hyatt Hotels Corporation – as a goodwill gesture during the current travel downturn generated by the global Coronavirus scare.
Under the initiative, World of Hyatt members residing in the Asia Pacific region have had their loyalty benefits and assessment dates extended by one year, allowing more time to reach tier maintenance levels and for regular travel patterns to resume once the crisis is contained.
While the offer is currently on the table only for residents of the Asia Pacific, Hyatt says it is exploring the possibility of expanding the offer to global members who travel regularly to the region.
Under the plan, qualifying World of Hyatt members in the Discoverist, Explorist and Globalist tiers will see their existing levels expire on 28 February 2022 instead of 2021, allowing them an extra year to accrue enough points and status credits to maintain or upgrade tiers. At the same time, awards for Suite Upgrade, Club Access and Free Nights due to expire in 2020 will be extended through the entirety of next year, expiring on 31 December 2021.
World of Hyatt Senior Vice President, Amy Weinberg, said now was the time to be reaching out to help loyalty members as the brand understood how the global health scare was impacting lives.
“Extending the expiration of elite tier status and benefits for our members is one of the ways we can care for our most loyal guests, so they have one less thing to worry about during this incredibly difficult time.
Accounts are expected to be updated by the end of March 2020 with the new expiration dates, with qualifying members to receive further information via email, My Hyatt Concierge and other communications.
