Destination NSW has selected Steve Cox from a formidable squad of applicants to head up the state’s tourism body, naming the former Dymocks Retail Managing Director to the role, taking up office in May.
Following the departure of Sandra Chipchase at the end of 2019, Cox will move into the role looking to add to a litany of achievements left by his predecessor which included the creation and decade-long management of Vivid, which has grown into a major annual event for the state.
Appointed by Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney, Stuart Ayres, Cox said he was excited at the opportunity to be able to make a positive contribution to NSW.
“Tourism is a dynamic and highly competitive industry and we must continually adapt to meet the ever-changing needs of our customers.
“I look forward to helping create and market new and exciting experiences for tourists to NSW and securing the world-class events this state deserves to host.”
Prior to Dymocks, Cox held senior roles in the fashion sector with David Jones and the Specialty Fashion Group. He is widely credited at helping to steer the book retailer through volatile times in the retail book industry as many brands around it either ceased to exist or dramatically scaled back operations as part of major restructuring.
Minister Ayres said he was looking forward to seeing Cox drive NSW to even greater heights.
