Bedding manufacturer Sealy Australia has pledged 1,000 new queen-sized mattresses to online charity GIVIT as a measure to help victims of Australia’s bushfires who lost everything to furnish their homes once ready to do so.
The $500k donation will see the beds set aside and shipped as the direction of GIVIT to recipients once new permanent residences are ready to occupy.
A registered Australian charity, GIVIT coordinates the collection and distribution of essential goods and services to bushfire-affected communities, working in partnership with the Queensland and New South Wales state governments.
Sealy Australia Managing Director, Simon Dyer, said it was important to provide a comfortable place to rest to assist with the recovery process.
“With our Sealy Australia family across the country, we’ve been moved by the terrifying images and stories, our team wanted to help those impacted by devastating bushfires the best way we know – with a safe and great bed to sleep and recover.”
GIVIT Chief Executive, Sarah Tennant, said the organisation was incredibly grateful to Sealy and that it would work with frontline services and agencies to ensure the bedding items went to those needing them most.
