Australia’s newest MGallery by Sofitel has opened its doors to guests, with a glittering opening ceremony taking place amidst business leaders, government dignitaries and international Accor executives.
Construction at the 250-room Hotel Chadstone Melbourne, MGallery by Sofitel began 18 months ago and is the Victorian capital’s only five-star hotel outside of the CBD, located around 20 kilometres to the south-east of the city. The property is owned by development firm Vicinity Group, who partnered with Accor to become the 11th MGallery in Australia.
Designed for the business and corporate sector visiting the bustling Chadstone precinct, which is also home to Australia’s largest luxury retail complex and is a thriving centre for fashion and other high-end lifestyle items. Around 24 million people visit the region each year, including 500,000 from overseas.
Accor Asia-Pacific Chairman and CEO, Michael Issenberg, said the company was honoured to work with Vicinity Group and see its vision of delivering a luxury shop-and-dine experience in Melbourne.
“Vicinity is a world-leader in retail asset management and Accor is not only the largest operator of hotels and resorts in Australia, but now the world’s second largest operator of luxury hotels. It’s a perfect partnership, and one that provides us with an opportunity to expand our luxury footprint in Melbourne, with MGallery delivering a stylish and memorable experience for our guests,” he said.
Highlights of the 12-storey hotel include a rooftop bar, swimming pool and restaurant which offers views over Port Phillip Bay and the Melbourne CBD.
