Experienced InterContinental Hotels Group leader Arpad Romandy has taken charge at Hayman Island by InterContinental after being named the new General Manager of the Whitsundays property three months following its opening.
Romandy replaces Mark Eletr who was named in the role late last year and oversaw the pre-opening formalities at the resort.
Bringing 18 years of experience with IHG to the Whitsundays property, Romandy has led InterContinental properties in the US, UK, Spain and Canada. Among these has been Harbor Court InterContinental Baltimore, Barclay InterContinental New York and Willard InterContinental in Washington D.C. Romandy is also no stranger to Australia, having previously held roles in Sydney at Amora Jamison and Shangri-La Sydney.
Key duties for the coming months will be to continue to build the team and to continue to grow awareness of the resort’s new life since its opening on 1 July. Commenting on his appointment, Romandy said it was a privilege to take up the role on Hayman Island.
“I, like so many others, have a special connection with the island through my passion for adventure and profound respect for our incredible surroundings. Hayman Island is a spectacularly unique place to which I am thrilled to welcome travellers from Australia and around the world”.
