Feedback from TripAdvisor members and users has placed Ovolo Woolloomooloo in Sydney’s inner-city as Australia’s Best Hotel in the travel website’s annual Travellers’ Choice Awards for 2019, the company announced today.
The hotel, housed within one of Sydney’s historic finger wharves in the trendy harbourside enclave, is steps from a number of the city’s most celebrated restaurants and trendy bars and offers creatively designed loft rooms.
One particular piece of feedback which contributed to its award win read: “Absolutely unique hotel that’s a cut above the rest. All staff were friendly and professional.” Another read: ““The loft room was amazing with its enormous lounge, so inviting that we didn’t even make it down to the free happy hour!”
Ovolo Hotels also claimed third place in the poll, with Ovolo 1888 Darling Harbour, on the other side of the city, voted into third place.
Sandwiched between the two Ovolo properties in second place was Pinetrees Lodge on Lord Howe Island. The offshore property was praised in online reviews for its rainforest location, lagoon views and flora and fauna biodiversity. One review for the former TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice-winning property read: “There are probably not many places in the world that are still so raw and ‘untouched.”
Rounding out the Top 5 for 2019 were two Queensland properties – Peninsula Boutique Hotel in Port Douglas and Korte’s Resort in Rockhampton.
The world’s largest travel site bases its Travellers Choice Awards each year on the standard of feedback posted by its users for a particular hotel across millions of reviews posted in a single year. The poll disregards quality standards in hotel marketing and star standards, basing outcomes solely on the opinions of its posted reviews.
The second half of the Top 10 comprised COMO The Treasury in Perth; The Langham, Sydney; Qualia on Hamilton Island; Meriton Suites Southport on the Gold Coast and Freestyle Resort in Port Douglas.
More than 150 properties along Australia’s east coast featured in the full list, Queensland taking the lion’s share with 75 recipients in the overall list, with NSW claiming 55 and 28 for Victoria.
Ovolo Hotels Founder and CEO, Girish Jhunjhnuwala, couldn’t hide his excitement at having claimed the gold medal.
“I’m all shook up! A great start to the year being named TripAdvisor’s No.1 hotel in Australia! It’s you, our shiny, happy guests that has made this possible!”
