Geelong business and tourism leaders have turned out to officially launch the next generation Ocean Grove Chalet, a new boutique accommodation offering near Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula.
Owned by Geelong Chamber of Commerce President Mark Edmonds and Le Maistre Builders namesake Mark Le Maistre, the 15-room chalet style hotel sits near the original chalet of the same name, around 100 metres from the main township of Ocean Grove. It is due to open to guests in December 2018.
The new $6 million chalet features 15 rooms, primarily made up of King Spa Bath rooms. Other categories include two Penthouses offering sea views, four two-bedroom family rooms and two accessible rooms. Guest facilities include an outdoor, solar-heated pool and spa and undercover carpark.
Speaking at a launch event today, owner Mark Edmonds mentioned the stark contrast in accommodation offerings between the Bellarine Peninsula and the nearby Mornington Peninsula on the opposite east coast.
“We wanted to create an opportunity to support local businesses. Making conscious choices to support locals wherever possible, the Chalet never had the intention of serving food due to Ocean Grove and surrounds boasting countless amazing and award winning dining options.”
The original Ocean Grove Chalet was built in 1887 and was once the headquarters of the local Methodist setting up in the area in the late 19th century. It contained 60 furnished twin rooms and six large bathrooms and was once used as a church before being demolished in the late 1960’s to clear space for larger developments.
