A redevelopment of Adelaide’s General Post Office building will see it transform into the city’s first Westin branded hotel, Marriott International announced today.
The Westin Adelaide, opening in 2022, comes following an agreement between Marriott and the Greaton Group and further solidifies the brand’s rapid expansion in Australia. Currently with three properties in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, this will grow to seven over the next five years as Brisbane, Darwin, the Sunshine Coast and now Adelaide all come on-line.
Housed within a 15-storey tower above the GPO, the 285-room monolith will deliver panoramic views of the city and Victoria Square to all guests. The brand’s signature Heavenly Bed and Heavenly Bath experience will also be fitted to all guest accommodations.
Public spaces will include three dining venues including an all-day general restaurant, a tea room and specialty bar. A resort-style swimming pool and Heavenly Spa will complement the on-site Westin WORKOUT gym, the trio headlining the Westin Adelaide’s leisure and wellness line-up. A 310 square metre function centre will be ready for events and gala dinners, while business travellers can also make use of a 24-hour business centre equipped with work stations, internet connectivity options and print facilities.
“Expanding the Westin brand into Adelaide is important strategically, as the city is enjoying great growth and development, which isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. Visitor numbers are at a record high and are on track to increase by 5.1 percent in the next ten years,” said Sean Hunt, Area Vice President, Marriott International, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.
