Wyndham is adding to its New Zealand stable, with Ramada Hotel and Suites Newmarket slated to open in Auckland in 2020.
The NZD$22 million new construction hotel will join eight Ramada hotels already open and operating throughout New Zealand.
“The surge in demand for hotel rooms throughout New Zealand makes the country a key focus area for growth, and we’re intent on strengthening our already-extensive presence in Auckland,” said Barry Robinson, president and managing director of Wyndham Hotel Group South East Asia and Pacific Rim.
“This latest addition complements our existing portfolio and presence across the city, as well as reaffirms our efforts to secure sought-after locations in growing markets,” he said.
Situated at 39-43 Gillies Avenue in Auckland, the 63-room Ramada Newmarket will be an eight-minute drive from the city CBD, and conveniently located near the Auckland War Memorial, the Southern Motorway and Westfield Newmarket.
Construction on the hotel, which will be operated under a franchise agreement with Gillies Trading Trust and managed by Accommodation Works Limited, is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2018. Part of a NZ$100 million Safari Group mixed-use hotel and residential development, Ramada Newmarket will feature hotel units, studio units and one and two-bedroom apartments, along with 81 square metres of purpose-built meeting space.
Upon opening in mid-2020, Ramada Newmarket will become the fifth Ramada hotel in Auckland, joining the existing 42-room Ramada Suites Auckland, Federal Street; the 66-room Ramada Suites Albany, Auckland North Shore; the 47-room Ramada Suites Victoria Street West, Auckland, which is currently under construction and scheduled to open early in 2019; and the 85-room Ramada Suites Manukau Pacific Centre, also under construction and slated for completion in mid-2019.
The new hotel in Auckland stems from a collaborative relationship between Wyndham Hotel Group and New Zealand developer Safari Group, having worked together on six other hotel projects in the country, including five Ramada locations.
“Our longstanding partnership with Wyndham Hotel Group has already delivered high-quality accommodation for travellers in important markets, ensuring our developments continue attracting strong interest from investors,” said Robert Neil, director of Safari Group.
