Brookfield Multiplex has reached a major construction milestone on M&L Hospitality’s redevelopment of Four Points by Sheraton Sydney, Darling Harbour, topping out the new 25-level building.
Located at 161 Sussex Street, the Four Points hotel redevelopment project includes the refurbishment of the existing hotel, the construction of a new 3,667 square metre convention centre and a 25-level tower including 15 new hotel levels and 10 levels of A-grade high rise commercial office space.
Already Australia’s largest hotel, the additional 25-storey tower will add 222 new guest rooms to the Four Points by Sheraton Sydney, Darling Harbour, bringing the total number of rooms to 892.
Brookfield Multiplex Regional Managing Director – NSW, David Ghannoum, said the project has presented numerous construction challenges to ensure minimal disruption to the 80,000 vehicles that use the adjacent Western Distributor Freeway daily as well as the 1000 guests that stay in the hotel each night.
“We have drawn on our expertise at delivering complex high-rise buildings in busy CBD environments to keep the development on track and minimise the impact on traffic and hotel guests,” he said,
“We have undertaken extensive safety and planning including and innovative precast plank solution to mitigate the safety, operational and programme risks inherent in working in and over a live environment like this.”
