New Zealand’s latest new-build internationally branded hotel, Novotel New Plymouth Hobson, officially opened in late 2015 (Dec 17) with a ceremonial ribbon cutting and evening cocktail event led by the Associate Tourism Minister, Paula Bennett.
MP Paula Bennett and over 150 invited guests enjoyed a first glimpse of the contemporary new 4.5-star hotel. The NZD$22 million 85-room hotel commenced construction in 2014 and is located in a prime location on the corner of Leach and Hobson streets, a short walk from the town centre.
General Manager for Novotel New Plymouth Hobson, Sam Sherer, said Novotel New Plymouth Hobson will play a key role in New Plymouth’s tourism economy and attract new visitors to the region.
“The arrival of an internationally recognised hotel to New Plymouth will be a major boost to the local economy not only from a tourism perspective but it has also created more than 40 hospitality job opportunities and construction jobs. Leisure and corporate bookings for the first half of 2016 are already shaping up strong and we expect this demand to continue once Jetstar commence their regional New Plymouth-Auckland services from February,” Sherer said.
“We’re really excited to open the hotel and provide internally guests to the region with a uniquely New Zealand experience with the knowledge and comfort of staying in a 4.5star hotel. We also expect the hotel will stimulate demand for domestic corporate travel given the Novotel brand has been operating in New Zealand for over 20 years and is known for its high-standard of service and facilities.”
Hotel Owner, Philip Brown, said: “After many months in the making, I’ve been looking forward to the doors opening and seeing this well-designed and energy-efficient hotel become a key part of the local community. The backing we have received in the lead up to the big unveil has been really encouraging and I would like to thank residents and business partners for all their support.”
Novotel New Plymouth Hobson features spacious and stylishly appointed executive and studio rooms as well as one and two bedroom apartments. Governors Eatery + Bar is flooded with natural light from its large, street facing windows and focuses on regional cuisine to highlight the very best of local produce from around the Taranaki region.
Business and conference travellers can also take advantage of Novotel’s modern meetings and events facilities which include two rooms which can open up to cater for up to 250 people or be closed off for intimate boardroom events for 10 people. Private on-site parking is available. Guests can also enjoy the hotel’s fitness centre with a fully equipped gymnasium and sauna.
