The Maldives, Seychelles, Aruba, Monaco and Mauritius are the most expensive destinations for accommodation, according to HotelsCombined, with travellers spending the most per-night on hotels.
HotelsCombined has also named the destinations with the most affordable accommodation and the top countries are well suited to those with an adventurous spirit. Bolivia offers the cheapest hotel rates per-night, followed by Laos, Nepal, Macedonia and Peru.
When it comes to spending money on hotels, HotelsCombined has revealed that Australians, Brits, Norwegians, Russians and Americans are the nationalities that spend the most per night on accommodation.
Global PR and Content Manager of HotelsCombined, Alycia Simons said travellers tend to visit locations like the Maldives for very special occasions and are happy to pay more to do so.
“Destinations like the Maldives, Seychelles and Aruba are once-in-a-lifetime holiday locations,” she said.
‘There is an expectation of indulgence when visiting one of these destinations and travellers are willing to pay more to ensure their holiday is a bit more luxurious.
“When we look at the other end of the scale, tourists visiting countries like Bolivia and Laos are looking for an affordable way to experience relatively untouched cultures and locations.
“While higher-end accommodation is also available in these countries, travellers to these areas are generally happy to stay in more basic accommodation,” she said.
