The upscale 184-room Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens Melbourne has wrapped up the latest round of its Refurbishment by Evolution program which focused on new glass panels in the lobby, rooms, bathrooms and lifts.
Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens General Manager Steve Finlayson said the work was undertaken quietly over several months without impacting on the hotel’s 90% occupancy rate.
“We have shed much beach wood panelling and created a bright classy glassy look,” he said.
Finlayson introduced what he dubbed Refurbishment by Evolution five years ago in which works, undertaken at night, do not intrude on guest comforts, privacy or convenience nor interrupt hotel operations and services.
The Refurbishment by Evolution program does not engage with the traditional upgrade routine whereby rooms and entire floors are closed for some time as they are totally stripped, refurnished and re-equipped.
“Our new lobby furniture and Reception glass panels for instance were installed overnight which amazed guests when they came down for breakfast,” he said.
The program included:
-100 bathrooms refurbished, including tiles and bath-showers being replaced by walk-in showers with two shower heads (power shower and rain shower) and walled with subtle sparkle black glass panels;
-100 rooms re-equipped with new work desks and chairs;
-Reception and concierge desks redesigned with rumpled silver glass panelling and backdrop muted white glass panelling;
-More efficient and brighter lighting across the lobby;
-New contemporary striped lounge seating, glass top tables and high back, European style red and black armchairs;
-New baby change room, and modernised lobby restrooms;
-Improvements to gym facilities; and
-Upgrade of in-room entertainment system; offering a selection of up to 80 of the latest movies.
The program included some “invisible” works too, Finlayson said, including boosting high speed Wi-Fi internet capability, new rooftop air-conditioning cooler unit and new lifts.
He said Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens was involved in a continual upgrade program.
