Royal Hotels has confirmed the InterContinental Sydney Double Bay will open in November 2014.
Mayor of Woollahra, Councillor Toni Zeltzer and her Councillors were welcomed by Royal Hotels Australia for a progress update and site inspection of the InterContinental Sydney Double Bay this week where it was announced the 140-room hotel was scheduled to open in November, 2014.
InterContinental Sydney Double Bay General Manager, Frederic Brohez, said the disused property has undergone some extensive enhancements.
“The refurbishment of the hotel will see the reinstatement of key features including a pillarless Grand Ballroom for up to 360 guests (banquet-style) and flexible meeting spaces as well as the creation of new spaces – the rooftop infinity pool and lounge, a destination concept bar and restaurant and the only separate kosher kitchen in Sydney’s Eastern suburbs,” he said.
Mayor Zeltzer said she was pleased with the progress of the hotel.
“We are so pleased to welcome the InterContinental Group to Double Bay, their reputation for excellence and a high standard of service will be a wonderful asset for our local community,” said Mayor Zeltzer.
“Having a luxury hotel in Double Bay will actively revitalise the Double Bay commercial centre and draw interest from international and domestic tourists.”
The announcement of the opening date comes as Urban Purveyor Group has revealed its popular The Rocks Japanese eatery Saké Restaurant and Bar is set to open at the hotel.
Featuring a stunning bar, indoor seating for 120 and outdoor seating for up to 30, the new Saké Restaurant and Bar Double Bay will be an exciting addition to the burgeoning Double Bay dining scene when it opens in December 2014.
Guests will enjoy contemporary Japanese fare created by Sushi Master and Executive Chef Shaun Presland, who draws on authentic Japanese training to present an outstanding mix of new-style sushi and classic dishes.
“The launch of Saké Double Bay is a great addition to the Group and a welcomed expansion of the Saké brand as it allows us to take a very successful concept outside of Sydney’s CBD,” said Urban Purveyor Group Proprietor, John Szangolies.
“The venue will allow Saké customers to call in for cocktails, pull up a seat at the sushi bar or settle in with friends for the evening and savour the full Saké experience.”
