Peninsula New York lobby

Clement restaurant, at The Peninsula New York, is now the first restaurant in New York City to offer every single wine on its extensive 250-plus list by the glass, including several from Australia and New Zealand.

Among the local wines are the Penfolds 2009 St Henri Shiraz (AUS) and the Voss Estate 2006 Pinot Noir from Marlborough (NZ). The 25-page wine menu lists bottles rarely offered by the glass, such as the 2004 Vega Sicilia Valbuena, a Spanish Tempranillo (US$128/glass) and the 2004 Château Léoville-Barton Saint-Julien, a Cabernet Sauvignon from Bordeaux (US$87/glass).  The top US wine on the list is the Bond 2006 Pluribus (US$220/glass) and the top European wine is the Mouton-Rothschild 1982 (US$1060/glass).

Clement is using the Coravin system to pour wine by the glass without opening the whole bottle.

Opened late last year, Clement restaurant is set out like a welcoming New York house with a range of small and large spaces – some brightly coloured, others mood-filled with muted lighting – to suit everything from an intimate gathering to business lunches to lively suppers.
