Trainees from the National Indigenous Training Academy have started work in the new Kulata Academy Café in Town Square. The café, formerly Red Rock Deli, has been set up as a hospitality training facility for Aboriginal students from all over Australia.

Under the guidance of supervisory trainers, the new student cohort will receive comprehensive food and beverage training. Echoing in the footsteps of Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Apprentice Program, trainees prepare and serve coffees, drinks, salads, sandwiches and cakes.

“In addition to providing industry-accredited training and employment opportunities to our Indigenous staff, the Kulata Academy Café enhances the guest experience at Ayers Rock Resort,” said Voyages Indigenous Tourism Managing Director Koos Klein.

“Whilst running the Café allows trainees to gain experience in a whole range of hospitality skills, guests can interact with our trainees in a meaningful way.”

The National Indigenous Training Academy has turned out 38 graduates since its inception in 2011, with 25 of them choosing to stay on and work at the resort.
