Accor's robotic Leonardo da Vinci

If a picture can paint a thousand words, what sort of artwork can be produced from eight hours of sleep? Well, Accor’s economy brand Ibis is finding out with the launch of a robotic Leonardo da Vinci as part of its introduction of the Ibis Sweet Bed around the world.

Ibis has teamed up with Swedish robotics expert firm Acne and the creative teams at BETC Digital for the artistic side of the campaign and designed a unique technological experience: charting a night’s sleep in one of its hotels on a canvas.

A robot connected to the new bedding will use sleep data to reproduce the guest’s sleep on canvas. Sensors are placed in the topper that is an integral part of the new Ibis Sweet Bed. The sensors monitor sleep data such as temperature, body movement (pressure on the mattress), sounds and vibrations. These are captured by the 80 sensors allowing the robot to translate the guest’s night at Ibis into art.

The data is sent to the robot, which is installed in the lobby of the hotel, and the robot will create the artwork ‘live’ during the night. Its work is filmed throughout the creation process, and then shared on the brand’s Facebook page www.facebook.com/ibis. Thus, this technological experience can be shared globally.

The robot mimics guests' sleeping patterns

Ibis hotels in Paris, Berlin and London will have the robots, and Australian and New Zealand travelers visiting Europe have the opportunity to be part of the experiment. They will need to sign up on the Facebook page www.facebook.com/ibis before November 13th, 2012 at 12 am (Paris time). The winners will be selected at random.

Three European cities will give away memorable nights to their customers:
-Paris: (ended 23 October 2012)
-Berlin: 26 October to 11 November 2012
-London: 14 to 23 November 2012

After the winners have spent their night in the hotel, they will receive the artistic illustration of this unique night in digital format. All the information about participating hotels will be available on the Ibis Facebook page.
