The Prendiville family, owners and operators of several hospitality businesses in Western Australia, have bought and rebranded the Grand Mercure Apartments in Townsville.
Now known as the Grand Hotel Townsville, the three-year-old Palmer Street property was taken over in mid-March and the Prendivilles (owners of Sandalford Wines, Pier 21 Apartment Hotel in Fremantle, The Karratha International Hotel, Hotel Rottnest, The Cottesloe Beach Hotel, and Tradewinds Hotel in Fremantle amongst others) plan to reshape the hotel as a “home away from home for mining, defence, Government, corporate and leisure guests.
“It is exciting to see the best hotel product in Townsville now being complemented with excellent customer service levels,” said Grand Hotel Townsville spokesman, Tim Newson.
“We can cater to every guest’s wants and needs and are making efforts to improve the product even further with upgrades like installing full size fridges in all apartment rooms for long stay and defence guests.
“We are aiming to be the best place for rest and relaxation after a huge day’s work and the one stop shop for a fun weekend out on the town,” he said.
The modern and contemporary Grand Hotel has 106 spacious one-bedroom apartments and king hotel rooms. The apartment rooms have full kitchenettes, washing/drying machines and stylishly appointed living rooms, and all rooms have large bath’s, balcony’s with a view, cable TV, in room internet and movies, secure undercover parking, and a 24 hour front desk and room service.
The hotel also supports local businesses by uniquely offering guests a broad array of dining charge back options in surrounding restaurants and bars.
Mr Newson also commented on the hotels commitment plans towards the local Townsville community, quoting
“We are keen to become entrenched in the local community,” Newson said. “As an Australian family built and owned business we are all about becoming engaged with our surroundings and are looking forward to getting out and meeting some of the local people and businesses of Townsville.
“We believe in Townsville’s future as a must-visit tourism destination and epicentre for commerce, and are excited to be showcasing some of the best accommodation Townsville has to offer,” he said.
Prendiville has plans to further expand its hotel business across Australia in strategic locations.
