Classical drinking den Eau de Vie at the hip Kirketon Hotel has been named the best bar in Sydney by entertainment bible Time Out magazine.
The publication that’s recognised as the city’s best guide to the Sydney’s top bars, restaurants, cafes and hotels, Time Out also awarded the ‘hot talent’ gong to Eau de Vie’s rising star bartender, Phil Gandevia.
Eau de Vie owner Sven Almenning exclusively told HM the Awards have capped off a huge year for the venue, which also included the den being named ‘World’s Best New Cocktail Bar’ at Tales of the Cocktail Sprited Awards in New Orleans and star mixologist Luke Redington named Bar Manager of the Year at the 2011 Australian Liquor Industry Awards.
“It’s been an amazing year for us at Eau-de-Vie, and to be crowned the overall best bar experience in Sydney at the Time Out awards means a lot to all of us,” Almenning said.
“Bottles of champagne were sabered to celebrate and I have to extend a huge thanks to Time Out and all its readers for the great support we have received.”
The Time Out Sydney Bar Awards, held on Monday October 24, were presented at the launch of the magazine’s 2012 Sydney Bar Guide.
“We live in a city that takes its bars as seriously as its restaurants,” said Time Out Sydney Food and Drink Editor, Myffy Rigby. “And we are the only publication in the city that prints a dedicated Bar Guide.”
The Kirketon Hotel is part of the 8Hotels Collection, led by Sydney Hotelier Paul Fischmann.
