An innovative new recruitment and training program by Mantra Group for Indigenous jobseekers in Cairns has been so successful that it will now be implemented across the broader Tropical North Queensland region.
After retaining four Indigenous jobseekers who originally participated in the program at Mantra Trilogy and Mantra Esplanade in Cairns, Mantra Group hopes to see further success for program participants across many more of its Tropical North Queensland properties throughout Port Douglas, Palm Cove and Cairns.
Each jobseeker participating in the program receives a Certificate II in Hospitality and work readiness training, followed by work experience and further training and coaching on Mantra Group properties.
During the work experience phase, the Housekeeping Supervisors and Managers evaluate which participants would be ideal candidates to continue working at their property.
Throughout the training period and for up to six months after the new employees start work, support is offered to both employees and supervisors to maximise retention.
Following the initial four jobseekers gaining employment, a further eight Indigenous team members have been retained across a variety of Mantra’s Cairns and Palm Cove properties to now total eight program participants successfully employed with Mantra Group.
Joining together with Indigenous Program Coordinator Christine Ryan and Dedicated Training Company’s Cate Ashmore, Mantra Group hopes very soon to place more Indigenous candidates across Mantra’s five Port Douglas properties.
